YMCA CAMP MARSTON Challengers
Ages 11-13
Entering grades 6-8
At the Challenger stage, children’s interests begin to diverge. Some may wish to sample canoeing, swimming, archery, crafts, drama, the cool “Mooters” (mountain scooters) or many other activities.
Each opening night, Challengers are presented with 15-20 activity choices. Campers submit their preferences, then are assigned three of their favorites (everyone guaranteed their 1st choice). The remainder of the week, they attend progressive morning “Skill Clinics”. Clinics provide a chance for individual interests, skill development, achievement and awards.
Wednesday morning is spent in an all-camp activity we call "Color Chaos"! Campers are divided into teams to compete in fun, crazy, exciting activities. Afternoons are a more relaxed with structured "Choice Time". Enjoying a dip in the pool or a game of chess in the picnic grove, shooting at the archery range or just talking with a new friend provide contrast to the faster-paced mornings. Evening programs include ever-popular campfires, skit-night and Carnival, with occasional creative programs like "Lord of the Rings Night" or "Super Cabin Bonanza!"
