Outdoor Education Staff

Director: Tara Murgatroyd

Tara, an Ohio native has over 14 years of experience working in resident camping and outdoor education. Tara received her BS Degree in Environmental Science from Bowling Green State University. As director of our School Camp program, she carries tremendous enthusiasm for teaching children about our environment, values education and character development.

Program Coordinator: Adam

Hello, my name is Adam and I grew up in Nebraska. I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln . In 2003 I moved to Jamaica as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer. As part of my work there I organized environmental summer camps and outdoor educational tours. This is my second year as part of the Camp Marston team.

Program Coordinator : Curtis

My name is Curtis. I'm from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I graduated from Temple University in 2006 and I have been working at Y camps for 5 years. I love outdoor education and I recently just completed an instruction course with NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School). I can't wait to meet you!

Program Coordinator: Abby

My name is Abby Gail. I hail from Atlanta, Georgia. I graduated from the University of Minnesota and I dig vegetables. I have worked at a summer camp in Maine for several summers and I love working with kids. I am so excited to be at Camp Marston and meeting all of the great students!

Health Center Coordinator : James

Hi, my name is James. I'm a San Diego local and a long time fan of Camp Marston. I started my career at camp in 1995 as a camper and am excited to still be involved with camp as the Health Center Coordinator. My favorite things to do include making sure that everyone at camp is healthy and playing baldorf. I hope to see you at camp soon!

Hi, my name is Evan. I am a pretty cool cat. I’m from Inglewood, Ca. My camp experience goes way back. I have worked with the YMCA and kids for eight years and this is my second year with Camp Marston. I am very dedicated to the YMCA and it’s mission. I am excited to be here at Camp Marston and am looking forward to a great season.

Hi, my name is Jason. I have been working with the YMCA for 6 years and it’s been the best time of my life. This is my second year at Camp Marston and I have done 2 summers with the teens program. The people are great and friendly and it is just an awesome place to work. Camp Marston Rocks!

Program Instructor: Mer

Hi, my name is Mer. I hail from Port Bruce, Ontario. I spent two and a half years in Jamaica in the Peace Corp and a year at a wilderness therapy camp on the east coast. I love baldorf, and buffets. I am excited to be here on the west coast at the YMCA.

Program Instructor: Josh

Hey, my name is Josh. I'm from Brooksville, Kentucky. This is my second year at Camp Marston and it is the third camp I have worked with. I am very excited to learn new things from Camp Marston. I am the two time world champion at baldorf (don't know what it is - ask my at camp). See you soon!!

Hi, my name is Christina and I’m originally from East Los Angeles, CA. I moved to amazing Camp Marston last spring! I have been attending camp since I was 8 years old. I enjoy camping, reading and teaching. I love camp!!!

Program Instructor: Ana

My name is Ana. I’m from Brazil and I’ve been working for YMCA Camp Marston since April 2008. I am outgoing and a nice person and most importantly I love working with kids. I am a Biology teacher in Brazil, so working her is a good experience for me.

Program Instructor: Kayla

Hi, I’m Kayla. I was born and raised in Oceanside, CA. I have attended Biola University and I am studying anthropology and English. I love to play sports, cook and read. Macaroni-n-cheese, teaching classes and PIGdorf are a few of my favorite things. I can’t wait to meet all students at camp.

Hi! My name is Allison, and I’m from Texas! I graduated from Texas A&M University – Chorpus Christi with a degree in environmental science. I love kids and enjoy teaching them at camp. I’m really excited to be here and I look forward to meeting all the kids that come to camp!

Program Instructor: Ryan

Hi! My name is Pringle. I enjoy doing anything outside but most of all I enjoy riding my bike in the mountains and playing my ukulele. I absolutely love working at camp and love my coworkers. I look forward to meeting you!

Program Instructor: Lauren

Hi! My name is Lauren. I originally hail from the LA area and recently graduated from the University of San Diego. I love the out-of-doors and nature. I am excited to be teaching kid outside about the world we live in!

Program Instructor: Barbie

Hi, I’m Barbie. I am a science loving Pacific Northwester from Tacoma, WA. I completed a Bachelors in Biology and Spanish at St. Louis University and spent time backpacking and researching sea turtles in Costa Rica. I love talking about the environment with kids, so teaching at Marston is right up my alley!

Hello - My name is Thiago and I hail from Brazil. I have been to the USA previously and worked at a summer camp in Texas. I love sports, especially Basketball. I am excited to be here in San Diego and am looking forward to working at Camp Marston. See you soon!

Hi my name is Rich. I am from Oklahoma and have worked a Y summer camps and OE programs since 1995! I most recently was working in South Carolina and I am excited to be in Southern California and working for Camp Marston!

I am Jessica and I am looking forward to meeting everyone. I recently graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Environmental Science. I love working in with kids and especially in the outdoors. I am excited to be at Camp Marston!

Hi - my name is Donna and I come from Chicagoland. I just finished my Bachelors last spring and I am so excited to have a job in the field. I am really excited about working at Camp Marston and I can't wait to meet all of you.

Hey, I'm John and have just arrived at Camp Marston this Spring and I am excited to be here! I love farms and making and consuming goat yogurt. I also injoy dancing and being funny. Although I originally hail from the Pacific Northwest, I am stoked to explore my new love: the desert southwest.

Hey, I'm Chuck and I'm a recent arrival to Camp Marston! I love working at camps and I have worked in different programs around the country. I have also taught special needs students in the classroom.

Hi, I’m Angela! I am originally from Wisconsin and I am now residing in Chula Vista. I have a Bachelors in Recreation Management with Environmental Studies. I am currently working on a MBA and hope to someday be a Park & Rec Superintendent. In my spare time I like to travel, swim and train my Golden Retriever.

Hi my name is Melissa. I love playing outside with cool kids, canoeing, kayaking, and doing pretty much anything that involves being in the great outdoors. I’m super excited about working at Camp Marston and look forward to meeting you!
